Filmtipset - Trash

The more movies you watch it get's likelier that you'll find yourself asleep thirty minutes into the screening. It doesn't have to be bad, it's just not that interesting because you have seen the premise innumerable times before.

If you try to steer away from the middle of the road, you often end up watching a guy gazing into the horizon with a gloomy look on his face. Character studies they're called, which is as interesting to me as having a cup of coffee with a friend with a made up personality.

Stephen Daldry, the director of Trash, has a couple of movies like that under his belt, but also the amazing Billy Elliot, about a young boy who'd rather dance than box.

This movie takes place in the slums of Rio and the main characters are a couple of fourteen year old boys, who do a real good job as actors. There's Rooney Mara as a social worker and Martin Sheen totters about as a priest in an interpretation that most resembles the inflatable robot in Big Hero 6, but the boys are the main focus.

The boys make a living collecting bottles at the towns city dump and one day one of them finds a wallet with a little money, but also something that's a major threat to the local politician. The police does everything and more to find it.

Small children should not see this, but if you watch it with your young teenagers it may lead to interesting conversations. There are a few scary scenes. Just the fact that kids spend their lives among the garbage is bad enough, but the rule that kids don't get hurt on film is also broken.

In the end it's a rather suspenseful cat and mouse chase. Someone will probably argue that there still is a Hollywood filter over the movie, but it was different enough for me to feel fresh. (8/10)

Sunrise Tuesday morning

The sunrise this Tuesday took a beating by the sunset the same day, but now that the weather is monochrome again, it may be worth a gander. This is just around the corner from where I live.

Brunnsparken

Three pictures from this sunday's street photography walk. Wide-angle lens and as close as I could get and, yes, I got bird poo on my camera.

Fire in the sky

That yesterday's sunset would be spectacular was a fair guess, but I could not decide where to shoot it, First I went to Strömmens Berg for the second picture, then to Storhöjds Trappan for the third. But in the end I decided to shoot it from the walking bridge over the freeway Röde Orm (the red snake).
It was worth the trouble.

Greetings from Gothenburg

Ibland måste man ha lite tur.

Tur.

You gotta have a little luck sometimes. Yesterday's sunset looked real promising so I went to Klippan in Gothenburg. Just as I arrived a big Stena boat left for the open sea and I thought to myself, there's a picture.

The sun set slowly, but the clouds wasn't where I wanted them and loads of planes left ugly white stripes across the sky everywhere. When the sun touched the horizon a boat appeared, but they drive real slow the last stretch, would it make it in time? Well, when the boat reaches the bridge, the clouds have moved in position and most of the airplane tracks have been erased. Luck.

Gatufoto i Göteborg

The sun was out yesterday and so was I. I went to town to shoot some street photography. And that is just as scary to me, as anyone else. You want to get close, but you don't want your teeth knocked out. Well, that's how I feel.

And most photos are just of people walking, but then again what are people expected to do in the middle of winter. Hopefully there's something else to these than just people strolling.

When I got home I discovered that I got a picture of my photo buddy Emil Agrell, (last picture).

The Eurovision song contest started here in Sweden yesterday, and it's actually the biggest tv-show all year. Sweden literally stops when it's on. The streets and restaurants are empty. This goes on for weeks and yesterday Eric Saade won the first contest, and that's him in the first picture. Oscar Zia was in the swedish final last year, Robin Stjernberg won in Sweden 2013 and Linus Svenning was also in the final last year.
